Bud Marley, a rising talent from the vibrant city of Minneapolis, is quickly making waves in the local rap scene. Known for his lyrical prowess and unique style, Bud effortlessly blends his experiences growing up in the Twin Cities with his distinctive musical talent, resonating with audiences and capturing the essence of Minneapolis and St. Paul.

In an exclusive interview with Urban$ound, Bud Marley shared insights into his musical journey, influences, and future aspirations.

Q: Can you tell us about your musical influences growing up, particularly how artists like Master P, E-40, and Young Dolph have impacted your style and approach to music?

A: Independence, longevity—unfortunately, Dolph didn’t get to see the longevity, but he left a legacy behind for his artists and empire to grow and remain relevant.

Q: Your upbringing in Minneapolis has shaped your sound and lyrical content. How do you incorporate your experiences from the Twin Cities into your music?

A: I’m from the city of twins, home of the lakes. I just feel I’m different from any artist back home. While many in Minneapolis and St. Paul tend to be on the drill wave, I strive to be versatile with my music.

Q: “Sky Has No Limit” is a standout track on your new album. What inspired the creation of this song, and how does it showcase your versatility as an artist?

A: Staying down for the come up shows my vulnerable side as an artist.

Q: Young Dolph’s emphasis on artist independence has influenced you significantly. Can you share more about how this perspective has shaped your career and your approach to your music?

A: It showed me that this music business is 90% business and 10% talent, and being able to own your music is crucial.

Q: Your album reflects a blend of personal experiences and conscious themes. How do you balance storytelling with conveying deeper messages in your music?

A: I want people to feel me all the way around, no Diddy. It’s about the beat and the mood I’m in. The songs you hear now, I wrote during being incarcerated.

Q: You mentioned that your writing process often involves listening to music while working out at the gym. Can you elaborate on how physical activity enhances your creativity and influences your songwriting?

A: Working out gets my blood going and thought process moving. After every rep, I write a bar or two. It could be just my workout playlist or even writing to no instrumentals. It sounds crazy, but that’s how it comes into play sometimes!

Q: As an up-and-coming artist, what challenges have you faced in establishing yourself in the Minneapolis and St. Paul rap scene, and how have you overcome them?

A: There’s really no support in the Twin Cities when it comes to artists. The challenges lie in more haters than supporters, especially compared to artists in other states.

Q: Your unique style sets you apart in the local rap scene. How do you stay authentic to yourself while also staying relevant to your audience?

A: Just being me and only me, staying in my own lane and surfing my own wave. When people hear me, they hear something different.

Q: With your rapidly growing fan base, how do you engage with your listeners, and what role do they play in shaping your music?

A: Social media is key—a free platform to engage with your fans. Their feedback keeps the fire lit, especially on platforms like TikTok, where I receive nice feedback in the comments.

Q: What can fans expect next from Bud Marley? Are there any upcoming projects or collaborations you can share with us?

A: Fans can expect new projects and music videos, with more music on the way. I’m ready to drop another whole project—I’ve got plenty of pre-recorded songs. Be on the lookout for HIM 2.
