Introducing Matthew Hernandez, who goes by the name of Jookz is a 29 year old Hip-Hop recording artist from Brooklyn, NY who began writing rhymes at age 9. By the age of 23, he has interned for Eric Parler, the Vice President of marketing and promotions at Def Jam Records and has opened up for Fred The Godson and China Mac.
He has also performed at shows with Ron Browz, DJ Webstar and another Brooklyn native, Joell Ortiz. Jookz has performed all over NYC, as well as the very known Chip Shop in Brixton, London. His records have been played on New York’s own Hot 97, WBLS and many other FM radio stations throughout the United States. He has also been written up on many blog sites as such Thisis50 & ItsBizKit and has even appeared on News 12 Brooklyn & Bric TV.
Currently, he curates a music competition called Tunage Showcase, where he invites other aspiring artist to perform and show off their skills. Hot 97’s DJ Fat Fingaz, DJ Drewski, DJ Mike Medium, Prince Dollars, Krista B, L’Orèal Luchi & Thisis50’s Hynaken have been host of his events. Jookz has had special guest such as PNB Chizz perform at his Tunage Showcase as well as Ether Da Connect and Mr. Swipey.
Swift On Demand from Love & Hip-Hop & K Goddess have even made special guest appearances. Winners of the competition have had the opportunity to meet The Heavy Hitters own DJ Enuff, DJ C-Lo & DJ Drewski for private studio listening session and be interviewed by Hot 97’s Shawni Culture. Winners have also had songs played on multiple radio stations , written up on many blogs and have even won cash ($1000).
