Ratcliffe, who owns a season ticket at Stamford Bridge, is worth in excess of £21 billion and According to Utd Report, the 66-year-old billionaire registered an interest in taking over the Red Devils from the club’s current owners, the Glazer family.

The 66-year-old recently purchased Team Sky, and is understood to have also made a £77m bid for French club Nice in February. Ratcliffe already owns one football club, having taken over Swiss side Lausanne in 2017.

Current Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is understood to have not watched the side since the expiry of his visa in 2018, with the Russian tycoon having withdrawn his application to extend.

The 52-year-old has since become an Israeli citizen, and despite having not attended a game for more than a year is believed to have no plans to sell the club.

Abramovich purchased Chelsea for just £140m in 2003, with his investment establishing the West London club amongst Europe’s elite. According to the Mirror Ratcliffe believes a bid of £2.5bn could persuade the Russian to sell.
