Asian-American artist Star2 is turning heads with the release of his latest club anthem, “Clout Chaser,” accompanied by a visually striking animated video. Serving as the fourth track from Star2‘s upcoming album, “Shooting Stars,” the single delivers an unapologetically blunt narrative on the challenges and complexities of those relentlessly pursuing money, status, and fame.
“Clout Chaser” jumps into your chest with a pounding beat and sub bass, topped off with trap hi hats that dance around the listeners’ head. Atmospheric samples serve as the backdrop alongside a stabbing, descending string line and a relentlessly haunting piano melody. Paired with an action-packed animated video by Lubomir Atan, the visuals for “Clout Chaser” profile a fierce race between two women to reach Star2 and his riches at the finish line. Star2 warns, “When you come up, people want to eat off your plate. Watch out for girls who clout chase and only want to use you.”
Currently on a homecoming trip to Thailand, Star2 is returning to his roots at the Mae La refugee camp where he was born. Star2 began his life in a Thai refugee camp where he was forced to flee genocide from the Burmese army in Myanmar who burned his village to the ground. A lottery in the camp brought him to San Diego with his grandmother and her four children, where he began a new life. Now, under the mentorship of esteemed producer Chico Bennett, his collaborations with acclaimed rappers include Soulja Boy, $tupid Young, Mozzy, MBNel, Luh Kel, Lil Poppa, HoodTrophy Bino, YSN Flow, and MarMar Oso to name a few. While not on tour, he documents his journey in the popular ‘Adventures of Star2’ series on YouTube.
