ASAP Rocky Has Been Found Guilty in Swedish Assault Case

American rapper A$AP Rocky was convicted Wednesday by a Swedish court of assault, along with two associates, over a June 30 fight on a Stockholm street.

The Stockholm District Court said in a statement that the men, who were freed from jail earlier this month pending the verdict and have since left Sweden, would receive only “conditional sentences,” which do not call for jail time or fines.

It was also announced that the rapper will not need to return to the European country and has been ordered to pay a fine of kr12,500 SEK in total (approximately $1,302 USD) to the victim; he was also given a suspended sentence of two years probation with no additional jail time.

“The court finds that the defendants were not in a situation where they were entitled to self-defence and that they have assaulted the victim by hitting and kicking him,” the court said in a statement posted to its website.

“The assault has not been of such a serious nature that a prison sentence must be chosen,” the court said in a statement. “The defendants are therefore sentenced to conditional sentences.”

The court rejected a claim by the men who brought the case against Rocky and his entourage that they were attacked with broken bottles.

The judges said prosecutors did not prove the bottle was used to hit the victim. As a result, the judges said the crime did not warrant any further time served, and added Rocky will NOT have to do community service.
