ASAP Rocky Formally Charged with Assault in Sweden, Trial Starts Tuesday

Rapper A$AP Rocky has officially been charged with assault in connection to an incident in Stockholm, Sweden last June 30.

Prosecutors have scheduled Rocky’s trial to begin next week and he will remain in jail until the trial proceedings begin on Tuesday. Public prosecutor Daniel Suneson made the official announcement Thursday, stating:

“I have today commenced criminal proceedings against the three individuals suspected of assault causing actual bodily harm, having come to the conclusion that the events in question constitute a crime and despite claims of self-defense and provocation.”

However, Rocky’s lawyer Slobodan Jovicic has maintained that the rapper and his associates acted in self-defense after ongoing provocation by the men. If Rocky is found guilty, there could be a potential silver lining according to TMZ’s most recent report. The prosecutor says that if A$AP Rocky is convicted of the assault he will not recommend the full 2-year sentence that this crime carries in Sweden.

Stay tuned as more details emerge surrounding the case. In case you missed it, the other men involved in the altercation will not be charged.
